Why is my Instagram post missing or my video not playing?

Written by Guy Schragger - Sauce Social Commerce

Instagram posts can sometimes be missing from your Sauce Media Library, or appear without a playable video. Follow the checks below for your issue.

My video won’t play

You may see this message:

Instagram hasn't provided this video for playback. This may be due to copyright audio, or if the creator has disabled Downloads on the media.

Instagram hasn’t supplied the video for Sauce to play. The message suggests possible causes; it doesn’t confirm which applies.

Check whether Downloads are enabled

The creator can check this in the Instagram mobile app:

  1. Open their profile and select the Reel.

  2. Tap Options → Manage.

  3. Tap Turn on downloading, if available.

If someone else created the Reel, ask them to check this setting.

See Instagram’s guide to managing Reel downloads for current instructions. Enabling Downloads is a troubleshooting step and does not guarantee playback in Sauce.

Check the audio

Instagram may restrict access to media containing copyrighted audio or other copyrighted material. A video can still play on Instagram while being unavailable in Sauce.

Ask the creator whether they can provide a version with original audio or audio cleared for your intended use. Enabling Downloads won’t necessarily resolve an audio restriction.

My post is missing from the UGC tab

Try these checks:

  • Check Added and Removed. The post may already have been actioned.

  • Search the caption. Use a distinctive word or two from the post.

  • Allow time for new posts. UGC can take up to 12 hours to appear.

  • Retry after a few minutes. Instagram media links can expire; Sauce automatically attempts to refresh them.

Some limits also affect which posts are available:

  • Posts should have been published within the last 18 months.

  • Instagram may withhold posts containing copyrighted material.

  • Only the first slide of a carousel is available in the UGC tab.

  • UGC is generally retrieved from when you fully connect Instagram to Sauce. Older posts may sometimes be available through an Influencer lookup.

  • Hashtag Tracking mainly collects new posts from when tracking starts; historical access is limited.

Posts may also appear in a different order from Instagram.
